An advocate is one who stands up for a cause; supports or defends on another's behalf. A parent, guardian or caregiver is a child's advocate. Becoming an advocate is something one learns through their own experiences of their own child or another family member.
There are times that the advocating process can be emotionally exhausting for the caregivers of a child. Not only are they taking care of the child, but also persuading others to understand the child's educational needs. Human nature exposes the caregiver to be emotionally attached to the child which makes the job that much harder. A person who is not emotionally attached such as an advocate can have a fresh perspective and may implement the tools to guide the educational process to benefit the child to receive an adequate education.
